Of all of the regional chapters of Graduate School Associations, WAGS is considered the most active, and as such, has much to offer its members. Our 60th Annual Conference will be held this year in Las Vegas, Nevada from March 18–21, 2018. You will find that we have invited several exciting speakers to address conference attendees and that we will be having a variety of discussion topics on pressing issues, challenges, and opportunities that will shape the future of graduate education.

Who can join WAGS?

WAGS is a regional association affiliated with the Council of Graduate Schools. There are two different types of members:

  1. Full Members: Accredited institutions of higher education in the Western United States, Canada, Mexico, and the Pacific Rim that offer Master’s and/or Doctoral degrees.
  2. Affiliate Members: Organizations and entities (excluding those in category 1 above) that are state or corporate sponsors of our annual WAGS meeting.

Why should my institution become a member of WAGS?

Membership has many benefits, including but not limited to:

  • Annual Conference: Discounted registration rates for all employees from member institutions at our annual WAGS Conference
  • Competition: The winner of your 3MT competition can compete at our WAGS Regional 3MT for prizes and recognition; the winner and audience choice awardee or runner-up will be invited to compete at the CGS National 3MT competition
  • Awards: Ability to nominate your students for WAGS awards, including:
    • Distinguished Master’s Thesis Awards
 STEM: Biological Sciences, Mathematical and Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, and Engineering
 Non-STEM: Humanities, Social Sciences, Education, and Business
    • Innovation in Technology Award to recognize masters and doctoral student innovations
  • Resources: Access to our new, forthcoming members-only area of the WAGS website containing conference presentations, member annual reports, and other documents in an online resource library
  • Networking: Access to our new, forthcoming WAGS listserv for easy exchange of information, best practice advice, networking, and problem solving
  • Community: Get to know your neighbors working in graduate education in the West at our annual conference, through our soon-to-be listserv, and at WAGS get-togethers at the Summer Deans Institute and the CGS Annual Meeting
  • Leadership: Each year WAGS holds an election to seat our Board; members are encouraged to run and participate in the leadership of WAGS
  • Regional Relevance: Smaller, more intimate meetings that allow for strong collegial friendships and opportunities to share resources and problem-solve around regionally relevant issues

How much does it cost to join WAGS?

Membership in WAGS costs $300 per year per institution. This provides membership benefits to as many staff as you’d like to include. Membership fees run January-December (calendar year) and can be made online using a credit card via the link below.
